What if the word SURRENDER didn’t sound so negative? What it it didn’t really sound or feel like defeat; live giving up, weakness? What if it means freedom, strength, confidence and hope?
“Deny himself and take up his cross daily.”
Surrender has nothing to do with accepting Christ as savior, it has to do with Christ as Lord and submission to Gods sovereignty.
We have been given a freedom of choice and will…. we choose what we do with our agenda, our desires, our calendar, our checkbook….will it be for our own kingdom or His?
We cannot claim him as savior and lord yet live for ourselves. If Christ is our model, if He is our teacher, we must follow his example on surrender.
Christ himself modeled submission to the father with his will in Luke 22:42, with his words john 12:49-50 and with his very life as he laid his glory aside and became obedient to death Phil 2:6-8
Christ was willing to deny himself, take up His cross, and accept His own death to see Gods redemptive plan completed.
Christ was fully Son of God but He chose to live as the Son of Man as an act of surrender because he understood just how incredible the Fathers Love is. As the Son of Man He realized just how much the Father is willing to do in and through us if we are willing to take the very life he has breathed into us and place it back into His hands. It is only when we surrender our thoughts that we are able to receive peace over our circumstances, it is only when we surrender our fears that we are able to see God lead us to victory in our battles, it is only when we surrender our checkbook and calendar that we have our eyes opened to the reward of being generous toward others. It is only by placing our faith in this savior and surrendering to Him as Lord that we are able to experience the abundant life God designed us to live, the life spent walking with Him in His presence. In His presence we experience perfect love, fullness of joy, peace beyond comprehension, grace unending, endurance in the waiting, the ability to see and love others as only he does, a hope that does not waiver, and strength for the impossible.
Surrender is not weak, it is not giving up, it is not quitting….it is simply accepting that you were designed, you were destined, you were purposed, you were created for so much more than you can ever accomplish on your own… and only our God can lead us to this abundant life He has waiting for us here and now.
